Hilary's Blog - 3 June 2008

Well, three years after sitting through the long range radio course syllabus I have finally passed the exam for the short range VHF licence, along with Helen and Paul, so now the whole team can legally use a marine radio without a licensed operator watching over us. Although it’s impossible for me to use the handheld Raymarine VHF radio I have onboard my boat, I can at least keep a listening watch and even talk an unlicensed person through which buttons to press. The RIB is out of water having some last minute maintenance done. It would be great when we all get through sea survival (hopefully) tomorrow and can get back on the water for a final days’ training.

The two weeks at UKSA have flown past and, as usual, everyone here has treated me and the rest of the team extremely well. We would all like to thank Jon Ely, Simon Davies and the rest of the staff – particularly those in the kitchen – for their generosity and their time.
