11 July, 2009 - Still in Troon

16 July, 2009 - Troon to Loch Ness
I have to admit that being stuck in Troon Yacht Haven because of the RIB and the weather has been frustrating at times. However, there are plenty of places I can think of that I would have found much more trying.
All the Troon Yacht Haven staff have looked after us incredibly well, even fixing a leaking sink. The facilities there are fantastic, especially if you are a girl as the bathroom even has a bath. For non-sailors I ought to point out that this is a very rare commodity indeed when you are sailing. Showers are usually the order of the day, so to be able to soak the salt off in a bath is an absolute luxury. For me it brings the added bonus of pain relief - spasming muscles get to relax.
The storm that was forecast has now passed over. Although it was nowhere near as strong as the forecast predicted it was still too strong for us to go sailing. It was annoying to miss a day's sailing, but it's definitely better to be safe than sorry. Taking any sort of risk at night multiplies the risk factor several times so sitting still was the only option.
We should leave here around 10 AM tomorrow morning. It will be a race to see whether the wet crew dry crew arrive first, even though Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries have very kindly given us free passage for the vehicles. This means that the dry crew get to avoid a 150 mile drive. It's only a 30 nmile sail and the dry crew have two ferries to catch, so it will be interesting!
The plan is to leave Tarbert early on Tuesday morning so that we can be at the Crinan Canal with enough time to get through all 15 locks in a day. It probably means that there will be no blog for the Troon-Tarbert sail tomorrow. If there is one, then something has gone awry with our plans...
