9 July, 2009 - Tarbert Tomorrow

West Coast Marine obviously did a great job putting in the new engine. They were working until at least 9 PM last night, and the RIB is all ready to go. The wet crew have spent the day putting the roof rack back on and going out for test drives. They've even offered their services for free, and the Yacht Haven here has lifted the engine and boat out free of charge. "SUB" has even had its bottom washed. It's running better than ever, so I'm seriously considering whether it needs a name change as "SUB" is an acronym... :-)

We're planning on leaving around 9 PM tomorrow night. This means that the land crew can't catch any ferries, so they face a 150 mile drive. I have seen Jo more happy as she hated the last night drive. Jo and I spent most of the day shopping in Glasgow for bits and pieces that the team needed, including new shoes and jumper for Terry, whose clothes got just a little bit trashed whilst lying under an engine for several hours.

This afternoon we had a visit from the Provost and members of Ayrshire district Council. They came back tonight to ask for a team photo and suggested that they may be able to fundraise for us within the Council, which would be fantastic.

Everyone at Troon has been incredibly welcoming, and the whole thing has been made more enjoyable by the fact that a friend from Lymington, Ben Meritt, was around for a couple of days as the boat he skippered in Lymington has moved up here. Now I need to get in touch with the Ellen MacArthur Trust lot to find out where they are so that we can arrange a meeting and a party.
